Birthday Boy

It is so hard for me to believe that Elijah will be turning 4 years old today. I delight in my son and am continually impressed by his sweet spirit. I love his eagerness, his flexibility, his tenderness and his never ending fascination with sticks. I have learned more about heavy dirt moving equipment and dinosaurs in the last 2 years than in the other 32 combined.

It just so happened that we both took our naps in the big bed today; not something that happens often because Elijah can be such a wiggle worm when he is winding down at nap time. As I was falling asleep, I could feel his little fingers brush my face as he played with my curls. It is safe to say that we both drifted off feeling safe and content with each other. This has been a year of seismic change for my son and I am deeply grateful for his ability to adapt. And I treasure the 3 years we had alone together; the unique privilege of the first born.
