Two Moms + One Van / Three Kids = Road Trip!
Tracy and I treated the big kids to an overnight trip to Portland as a bookend for summer. We had a couple of Must Do items on the list, including the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (better known as the OMSI). I was completely impressed with this place. The exhibits were world class, completely hands on and housed in an amazing re-purposed power plant on the Willamette river.
You are looking down the missal hatch in a real submarine! The USS Blueback is cold war sub available to tour and all 5 of us were impressed and amazed. The veteran who guided us through the vessel served on board the Blueback in the 70's and offered great personal insights into life on a submarine. ie. 87 crewmen, 1 shower every 2 weeks, out to sea 60-90 days, 70% of the crewmen smoked, no sunshine, no exercise.....sounds delightful.
The look of Amazed and Impressed.
While Andrew was unloading cargo on an actual dock, the kids pretended to do the same at the Port of Portland exhibit. A moving crane, strad, cargo ship and semi trucks enthralled the kids for most of the morning. Who knew that Andrew was living out the fantasies of dozens of little kids?!
So many more photos and stories to post! Stay tuned.....

My dad served on the Blueback. That looks like a ton of fun.
