Hung with Care

I love Christmas and Advent. The anticipation, tradition, and celebrating bring all that is important to me to the forefront of my mind. I feel like I get to be a little crazy (planting a tree in my front room!? hello!) a little decedent (egg nog) and a little more focused on the most important elements of life. That being said, by the time it all rolls around, I am a bit frazzled. No matter how hard I try not to be, the craziness and egg nog all rub off on me like static cling. Hence the magic of The Christmas Eve Walk! The Hurt lore has passed down a tradition that has become sacred in our house. Papa bear takes all the hyper cubs for a long walk on Christmas Eve. They swap tales, look at the Christmas lights, sometimes end up at the Christmas Carousal downtown and even stop for hot cocoa. This year was the first year that all the cubs were big enough to join in without yours truly which meant that I had an empty house for a couple of hours. Crucial hours used for elfing about the house, listening to Handel, and basically recalibrating my brain. The cold and tired cubs returned to stuffed stockings, special snacks and a refreshed mom waiting for them at the top of the stairs.

Elijah won Joke of The Walk this year! "What is blue and smells like red paint? Blue paint!"

Andrew takes the initiative for this entire part of the Christmas celebration. He purchased all the treats for the stocking, including a wand for Nina complete with lights and motion activated sound! Don't be deceived by the pink handle folks; our two year old now has a mobile car alarm with flashing lights.
