Purim

We enjoyed a cross cultural treat this past weekend: a real Jewish holiday! Our neighbor is a rabbi and his family invited us to celebrate Purim with their congregation. Purim is a boisterous affair that commemorates the heroic acts of Esther in saving the Jewish people from annihilation. As our rabbi friend says "All Jewish holidays have the same story line; Someone tried to kill us, we won, let's eat!"

Our "Biblical" costumes

A newly discovered treat, the Hamantaschen or Hamen's pocket

  1. Love the rabbi's quote! And I have to ask about the costumes--were the wellies for aesthetic or practical purposes?

  2. They always choose boots for ease, but it was also a very sloppy wet morning. I think they have a firemen's mentality when choosing foot ware; leave the house like it's on fire and slide down the hand rail into your boots!
