Haiti Update

I have received many emails regarding the condition of Clementine's orphanage in Haiti and wanted to thank you all for your concern. We are highly interested in any news about Haiti and this week has been heartbreaking. Clementine and Andrew and I watched video clips on Cnn.com last night and it is allot for all of us to take in. I am so thankful that Clementine is here with us, safe and sound. The orphanage seems to be fine, which is great news. The kids that live there are now some of the most protected and cared for children in the country. I can only suspect that this disaster created tens of thousands of new orphans and Maison de Enfants will see a surge in requests to take more children. Haitian children have a high rate of indentured service/ slavery. Death of a parent and a high rate of poverty make this segment of the population especially vulnerable to abuse. My fear is for these voiceless little ones who will suffer the most without protection and an advocate.

The pain and damage from this earthquake feels so overwhelming to me. I am relieved to have an outlet for the scary images and news and we will be sending support to Haiti through the orphanage. The community around Maison de Enfants knows that the orphanage is supported from overseas and many come by asking for work or food. I am sure that this trickle of requests for help has turned into a flood as the days pass. For His Glory, the American organization over the creche in Haiti, is organizing a team and supplies.
