Farmer's Market

Clementine and I made our final Farmer's Market trip of the season this past weekend. The weather was amazing (again) and it was a good excuse to spend some time together. An outing of this size is perfect for Clementine; no huge agenda, small snacks along the way, close to home and only a couple of hours long. The more we do this, the better she gets at it. I need to remember that in many ways, she is still about 2 years old on the inside. Adventures in small bites seem to be the right fit.

My favorite: Dahlias.

We brought some of these home, along with chard, kale and those purple carrots below. The greens all turned into a big pot of smokey, spicy Ribollita last night, which was amazing. Another reason to adore the fall? SOUP!

I love living in a place that show such strong support of Farmer's Markets, but I will never get over the prices. These tomatoes were $5.49/lb! Apparently someone has been storing seeds from an original crop of Thomas Jefferson's, lovingly planted them with whispers and harvested a ripe crop once each tomato was consulted on how they were feeling about basil and a possible future next to lettuce. Needless to say, we bought from the seconds bin and they tasted mighty fine at a fraction on the price.

Roasted pepper, still warm from the flame.

Her snack choice was a yellow tomato.
I would be smiling too if I got to sell......
....these all day

  1. Great Pix Sarah, you are having so much fun with the camera and it brings your experiences to life for us who live at a distant. As always you are an amazing woman!

Doesn't Clementine look good in those colors? Which we could do a little waltz with her right now!
