My diligent husband, who fixes houses during the week and unloads ships at night when he can, has recently become involved with Habitat for Humanity. A couple times a month, he will spend a Saturday putting those practical skills to use for the betterment of others. It is satisfying work and he has inspired the whole family, including our community group, to get involved.
We spent this past weekend putting the landscaping in a small apartment building that will be used to house battered women from The Union Gospel Mission. Its great low threshold work for those of us who are not so skilled which meant that the kids and I where actually useful to the project. (as opposed to just eating all the muffins and getting in the way)

Elijah and our cousin Natan were such eager helpers and it was a joy to work with such helpful boys.

Nina's job was to collect all the emptied plant pots after the seedlings were put in the ground. She called this "Bucketing" and reminded me that she could get sore from to much Bucketing. And that she might get hungry for another giant chocolate chip muffin soon....... Her name should be Mighty Mouse.
